I read, therefore I am.

The only thing missing from this picture is a stack of books…because truly a glass of wine and a good book, is there anything better?

I started blogging at WordPress a couple years ago under the header “Read ’em and Eat”. When I started I was trying to make a site that might be a useful resource for book club novices; a place to select a book, find some questions and even get a recipe or two.  Sadly, I don’t have the time to do it properly and, truthfully, there are already sites that do it way better than I ever could.

In December 2009 I went to a panel discussion about reading and was introduced to the term ‘ludic reader’. Turns out, that’s just what I am: I read for pleasure. I decided then and there that I wanted to rethink/redesign my blog and really focus in on what I most enjoy: chatting about the books. So, this is my attempt at a book blog version 2.

My name is Christie. I live in Canada with my family.  I teach high school English, but have had (it seems) a hundred other jobs. I love to travel. I love to cook. And I love to read.

I’d love to get to know you.

Updated May 27, 2016 to add: My new header was handpainted by my talented friend (and member of my book club!), Marianne. She does sell her work. Shoot me a note if you’re interested.

Hi Christie! I just discovered your blog through CBC Books Featured Reader. I love that you’re not afraid to say when and why a book doesn’t work for you. I’ve read too many book blogs that only review books they liked. Kudos on the fresh and honest approach!! I too will be bookmarking you.
    Cheers!
    L 🙂

I’d completely forgotten that I’d done that CBC thing! LOL Thanks for stopping by!

And I am jealous because you live in Canada! Italy is good for holidays, but not so good for permanent staying….

    • Christie November 4, 2016 / 7:42 pm

It is my dream to be able to live there for at least three months. I just love the heat and the wine and the pasta. 🙂

Well, if you travel here (and if I do not move to Canada!) don’t forget me. I live in the North East of Italy, about 50 minutes from Venice (by train):-)

I would love to meet up with a fellow book-lover!

      • librini November 6, 2016 / 1:10 pm

Oh, here there is not plenty of book lover… Italy in my opinion is a book-lovers-poor country. This is why I am here in the web, to look for book lovers from all over the world!

      • Christie November 6, 2016 / 1:14 pm

I love the Internet for that very reason – so may opportunities to meet people from all over the world. We are way more alike than we are different, really. 🙂

    Hi Christie,
I like your site, and would be so happy should you care to consider my new novel This Is All He Asks Of You to review, and as a possibility for your book club!

Thanks for the offer to review your book. Unfortunately, I don’t read ebooks.
